Notoriously known for its nation-wide restriction on its import and sale of chewing gum, the government of Singapore may finally lift the ban come September 2015.
Chairman Lucas Sim of the Regulation of Imports and Exports announced its decision Friday at long last to allow the legal sale and imports of chewing gum in the nation of Singapore.
“Singaporeans should be able to munch on a stick of gum any time of the day whenever they feel like it,” said Mr Sim. “As long as consumers promise to swallow the gum-based substance of synthetic origin, you can be assured that your favourite Wrigley’s Juicy Fruit can be found in any 7-Eleven or Cheers outlet.”

The ban which was elected in 1992 by then Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong was done so to combat the problematic vandalism and littering of chewing gum in train stations.
“We can now enjoy the best of both worlds – chewing gum and a gum litter-free environment,” said lawyer Russell Tan, adding that when its flavour has run out, simply swallow the gum as you would a Panadol pill with water.
Twenty-four year-old Angel Low, a local student and avid party-goer, told reporters that even though the remainder of a piece of gum was not supposed to be consumed, it would not really be that challenging to swallow the remainder after it was thoroughly worn out and seasoned.
"I thought it would be impossible to swallow it at first," she said. "But after I chew forty-five minutes or so it became quite easy to swallow,” adding that a seasoned piece of chewing gum was amongst one of the easier objects she has physically swallowed in her life.
