Teo Ser Luck Vows To Sleep Without Mattress Until Forgiven By Singaporeans

In an attempt to plead forgiveness from Singaporeans over an insensitive remark to migrant workers, Minister of State Teo Ser Luck has vowed to sleep without a mattress in order to gain the forgiveness of Singaporeans.

“As of tonight, I shall sleep without a mattress until Singaporeans can find it in their hearts to forgive me,” said Teo, adding that he had no difficulty parting with his king-sized King Koil pocketed spring mattress.

In the past week, Teo drew harsh social media criticism for what was perceived as an insensitive jab in a Facebook picture caption, directed at migrant workers living in Singapore.

The photo in question displayed a gleeful Mr Teo on a bed without a mattress, with a caption that read: "Quite comfy! I learnt that some workers prefer to sleep without a mattress as they are used to it back in their home country. They find it more comfortable and cooler too!"

“If I am still not forgiven by a week, I may consider forgoing my pillows and blankets,” the 47-year-old continued.

Teo told reporters that his ‘mattress strike’ was symbolic of his genuine apology to blue-collared workers and sleeping on the bare floor would be his ultimatum, although he wishes he would not be pushed to that stage, as the marbled flooring in his home can be “quite cold at night”.
