As the fifth season finale of HBO's wildly popular and acclaimed series Game of Thrones draws to an end this past weekend, Singaporeans from all ages continue to follow the series devotedly since its first season in 2011, with many more picking up the " A Song Of Ice And Fire" novels that the show was adapted from.
When asked what about Game of Thrones captures Singaporean viewers, 43-year-old Edward Heng told reporters: "It's fantasy at its finest when they have dragons, witchcraft and more than one authoritative leader," adding that the show featured at least six Kings vying for the power of one throne, a political climate Singaporeans were thoroughly unfamiliar with growing up.
Edward felt the fantasy-drama series was perfect with dragons, white zombie walkers and shadow assassins, but he "fucking lost it" when they threw a King or two into the fold for the fight for power.
"Now that's what I call fantasy."
"In Singapore, it was the pretty much the Lee's the entire time," grumbled Edward, adding that it would have been a "hell a lot more interesting" if there were a similar clash of kings (political parties).
At press time, Edward allegedly wished for "similar royal weddings" which followed loud gasps and an abrupt end to his interview.
