As operational costs continue to rise to an all-time high, Futsal pitches across the island have passed a new policy requesting players to return the rubber crumb bits to fields.

“As of 1st of July, players leaving the pitch are to remove their boots, and empty them onto the pitch,” said Mr. Ron Aldo, operational manager of BelowTheBridge chain of futsal pitches, adding that failure to do so will incur a fine of up to a $100.

Mr. Aldo told reporters that they were still dedicated to doing all they can in order to keep the pitches running and at the same time providing the best playing experience for their players.

Other measures considered to reduce operational costs included covering just half the pitch with grass, removing all lights and replacing the football nets with cost-efficient mosquito nets.

While the request seems mostly reasonable, many players have taken to playing barefoot as a sign of protesting the new change, despite it being against pitch rules.

“When I pay to play on the futsal pitch, I think I am entitled to some of the rubber bits that are on the pitch,” argued Sabril Amin, 22, a local student.

Mr Aldo’s closing comments were: “Until a better solution is found, remind each other to empty your boots.”
