Kendama Toy Important Phallic Symbol For Male Youth
Singaporean male youth have found a toy that they are truly having fun with in today’s age of smartphones and social media. To everybody’s surprise, it is not an electronic tech gadget.
To nobody’s surprise however, the Kendama is a Japanese invention. Fast becoming the latest hit with local male teens, the toy is a phallic-like wooden hammer, connected by string to a ball.
While enthusiastic youth execute the street-art-equse performances with the Kendama, public transport commuters enjoy the performances as the toy hits railings and walls repeatedly, producing high-pitched noises that are at the same time exhilarating for spectators.
Local housewife Tan Chee Geok said, “I don’t mind at all if the kids are holding up the walking paths because they are playing with the toy,” adding that she sometimes stood aside and clapped along to it as she watched the performance.
In studying the latest fad amongst the teens, Professor Jaafar from the National University of Singapore had some light to shed on it.
“The Kendama acts as an important symbol for Singaporean youth to show the world that they are proud of their patriarchal position in society,” said Professor Jaafar, adding that mainstream acceptance of the Kendama has enabled youth to combat castration anxiety in the public sphere.
“Youth in the past were restrained to bananas and ice creams to articulate their gender pride,” he continued. “Today, the Kendama replaces these weak symbols and articulates it in a forceful and more powerful manner.”
“Notice how you can’t help but to give your undivided attention to the sight of a young boy playing with the toy in the bus or train? Well, the same would happen if he dropped his pants and whipped his junk out in full view.”
Occasional Kendama events and jams are also held in Singapore where a nation-wide of sexually-proud males come together at a fun-filled event and “toss their balls around the shaft” with one another.
