This year, Singapore celebrates 50 years of independence.
Preparations made for the fireworks celebrations will be unlike past years as bold plans unveiled Monday to launch no less than $12 million worth of taxpayer’s money as fireworks, the largest and most expensive firework celebration to date.
“It’s Singapore’s 50th birthday and we’re cutting no corners,” said Raju Ganesan, Vice-Chairman of the Fireworks Committee, adding that hardworking taxpayers who have sacrificed blood, sweat and tears for the nation can expect to see their hard work repaid in the form of explosive pyrotechnic chemical reactions across the sky in a span of under 30 seconds.
The amount of fireworks to be used for the SG50 celebrations have been ramped up to a near-doubled amount in comparison to last year’s.
Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen has said that this year’s fireworks will be the “largest ever in NDP history”.
“Singaporeans will witness the afternoon sky in the night skies – I promise you that,” Ganesan spoke with tenacity.
The fireworks have been strategically designed to be launched out of seven designated high-rise buildings that will be more visible to PAP wards as compared to opposition wards such as the Hougang estate.
“After all, it would be a great injustice if the government put those that voted for and supported them after those who voted against the government,” he spoke in an irrefutable manner with the devastating use of cold, hard logic.
The Vice-Chairman told Durian Daily reporters that in planning the fireworks celebrations, it was no small feat to divide the multi-million dollar budget amongst the designated areas.
“The bulk of the taxpayer-fuelled budget will be launched at the Padang of course,” he explained, since the nation’s citizens who will be expecting the most out of the parade show will be the ones that were completely hysterical enough to pay for the hefty NDP ticket.
“Followed by $200 thousand at Suntec Tower, another $200 thousand at Pan Pacific Singapore and just $30 thousand each at the remaining areas respectively,” he continued, adding that any excess in the budget will be stockpiled for SG75’s fireworks fund.
“It’s going to be one hell of a sight to behold. Unless you’re living in the opposition wards, of course.”
